SARAJEVO, Sept 11 (Hina) - Stabilisation Force (SFOR) members in
Bosnia on Wednesday arrested two people for whom they had
information were connected with terrorism, SFOR spokesman Yves
Vanier said in Sarajevo on Thursday. #L#
A person named Dzevad Aletic was arrested based on information that
he was personally connected with Hose Padilo, a proven terrorist
who is currently incarcerated in the United States, Vanier told
reporters.
Aletic was arrested in the flat of his parents in Sarajevo on
Wednesday morning. During the operation, SFOR members confiscated
several documents.
During questioning at an SFOR base, Aletic mentioned another person
who also knew Padilo.
The person, whose identity SFOR did not wish to disclose, was called
in for questioning and did so voluntarily.
Both confirmed their acquaintance with Padilo, but it has not been
established that either of the two represented any danger to the
country's security, so they were released in the evening hours,
Vanier said.
The names of the two Bosnians were found in Padilo's diary, which
was the reason for their arrest. Vanier, however, challenged the
idea that the arrests had been carried out as part of measures to
prevent new terrorist attacks on September 11.
The Bosnian police were informed of the SFOR action, but took no
part in it.
According to Sarajevo's daily "Dnevni avaz", Aletic is a fourth
year student at a university in Kairo, and has been spending his
summer holidays in Sarajevo since July 1.
His father, Bajro Aletovic, said SFOR members had shown interest in
his son's religious books which are written in Arabian, and
confiscated them.
The so-called Egyptian connection was proven crucial in
preparations for last year's terrorist attacks on New York and
Washington.
