Two of the seven accused, Miljenko Bajic and Josip Bikic, are at
large and an arrest warrant has been issued after them. If they do
not turn up before the scheduled date of the continuation of the
trial, it will be necessary to consider trying them in absentia.
The panel of judges presided by Judge Lozina on July 22 approved
bail for the accused who are suspected of war crimes. This was
followed by an appeal by the Split County Prosecution to the Supreme
Court because it was believed that there was still reason to keep
the seven men in custody. The Supreme Court sustained the appeal on
July 31 and the police managed to return five of the seven accused
into custody.
The first on the indictment, Tomislav Dujic, had been at large even
before that.
Judge Lozina scheduled the hearing to continue on Sept. 19, when
witnesses from Serbia and Montenegro should take the stand in Split
County Court.
