Branko Stankovic, 50, a police inspector of the former self-styled
Krajina region, is charged with having physically abused Adam Mesar
on several occasions. As a result, Mesar sustained physical
injuries, including permanent hearing damage.
Asked why he had not mentioned Stankovic's name during a 1999
investigation, Mesar said the investigation had concerned another
case and the investigating judge had asked him about specific names
and Stankovic's had not been among them.
The defendant pleaded not guilty.
The trial resumes on Wednesday.
