MOSTAR, Sept 5 (Hina) - The United States' Embassy in Sarajevo on Thursday called on the authorities in the Bosnian Serb entity to refute the contents of a report in which the entity's office for the cooperation with the U.N. war
crimes tribunal (ICTY) tried to diminish the consequences of the massacre committed by the Serb troops against Bosniaks (Muslims) in Srebrenica in July 1995.
MOSTAR, Sept 5 (Hina) - The United States' Embassy in Sarajevo on
Thursday called on the authorities in the Bosnian Serb entity to
refute the contents of a report in which the entity's office for the
cooperation with the U.N. war crimes tribunal (ICTY) tried to
diminish the consequences of the massacre committed by the Serb
troops against Bosniaks (Muslims) in Srebrenica in July 1995. #L#
The American Embassy described as incorrect the contents and
conclusions of the said report which the office issued on Tuesday
and in which it claimed that two and not seven thousand Srebrenica
Bosniaks had been killed when the Serb troops overran that U.N. safe
haven in east Bosnia in the summer of 1995.
Monstrous crimes committed against civilians in Srebrenica in July
1995, including genocide - which was established by the ICTY -are
simply the truth. Attempts of any government office to establish
anything different than that are seen as a gross bid to manipulate
and divide the public in Bosnia-Herzegovina, read the statement
released by the US Embassy.
The Embassy called on the authorities in the Republic of Srpska to
show their commitment to fulfilling the justice by processing all
war crimes committed in the former Yugoslavia.
The said report from Banja Luka provoked strong reactions and
condemnation made by many other international and Bosnian
institution and outstanding public figures that labelled it as an
attempt to counterfeit the recent war and history.
