trial at the Rijeka County Court said on Tuesday that Ante Karic,
head of the Crisis Headquarters for the Lika region in 1991, was "a

Witness Pajo Simic, the organiser and commander of the first unit of
the then National Guard Corps (ZNG) in the Gospic region, told the
panel of judges and presiding judge Ika Saric he had no evidence to
support his claim, and added that "the fifth column arrived from
Zagreb with Karic".
He said he did not know anything about executions and had only heard
stories about them, but never paid much attention to them.
Stipe Brajkovic, one of the commanders in the Gospic 118th brigade
in 1991, also took the witness stand. Mirko Norac's defence
witness, Brajkovic spoke about the organisation of the unit and the
defence of Gospic.
The trial of the so-called Gospic group will resume on Wednesday.
