of Piran Bay, the Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday. #L#
"The Croatian Foreign Ministry yesterday evening sent a protest
note to the Slovene Embassy in Zagreb due to yesterday's repeated
unauthorised entry of Slovene fishing boats, a police boat, a port
administration boat, and a Piran maritime academy boat into
Croatian territorial waters in Piran Bay," the statement read.
The Ministry warns in the note that yesterday's conduct leads to the
deterioration of the situation in the area, reads the statement.
The Ministry notes that "such conduct by the Slovene side also
violates the agreement on avoiding fishing activities in the area
where the fishing regime has not been defined yet, which is a
necessary precondition for the full application of the Agreement on
Local Border Traffic and Cooperation between the two states".
The Ministry notes that as police control powers have not been
established in bilateral talks yet, it is necessary for competent
Slovene bodies to abide by Article 15 of the UN Convention on the Law
of the Sea and refrain from crossing the middle line in Piran Bay
until an agreement on demarcation is reached.
