Among other things, the first part of the "The Croatian Left"
article noted that there were 107 victims of war crimes committed in
Sisak in the summer and autumn of 1991. These were mostly Serb
nationals. At least 600 are considered missing and the most
responsible person for the crimes is General Ivan Bobetko, the then
chief of the Sisak Crisis Headquarters, the party paper reported.
Bobetko sued the paper and in July this year the Zagreb Municipal
Court ruled in his favour.
Commenting on the point that "The Croatian Left" has been silent on
Serb crimes against Croats, Suvar said that he fully supported the
investigation of all cases of missing and killed persons and the
punishment of the perpetrators.
He noted that the publisher of "The Croatian Left", "Razlog", was
ordered to pay Ivan Bobetko a total of 84,120 kuna (11,400 euros) in
damages, of which damages for Bobetko's mental anguish totalled
50,000 kuna, court costs totalled 7,920 kuna, and accumulated
interest totalled 26,200 kuna.
"We are surprised with the amount of accumulated interest, which
needs to paid from the date of the ruling being passed and not from
the day the ruling became final," Suvar said.
