eleven years since the Homeland War, the whereabouts of 1,348
persons were still unknown. #L#
Since the start of the Homeland War, the HCK received 28,700
requests to track down people who disappeared during conflicts in
Bosnia and Croatian liberation operations Flash and Storm. So far,
the Red Cross has managed to solve 9,061 cases.
The International Day of the Disappeared is being marked pursuant
to a recommendation of a United Nations working group for missing
persons, and at the initiative of a South American non-governmental
organisation FEDEFAM, which gathers families of the disappeared in
Latin America.
The cause for marking August 30 as the International Day of the
Disappeared is the fact that around 46,000 cases of abducted people
were registered in more than 30 countries, the HCK said.
