"We urge the Croatian government and international representatives
to protect the innocent against nationalist frenzy and violence
which is in full swing," reads a statement issued today by president
Tomo Aracic.
Aracic says that the situation in Drvar is alarming and that more
and more Croats are leaving for Croatia in search of shelter and
protection.
He also expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of care for Bosnian
Croats demonstrated by their representatives in the Bosnian state
authorities.
The Mostar-based "Dnevni list" yesterday reported that on the night
between August 15 and 16 unidentified persons destroyed a cross
erected in downtown Drvar in memory of killed Croat soldiers, as
well as that armed local Serbs frequently abused Croat refugees
which had settled in the town.
The destruction of the cross was confirmed by the town police and
international police forces.
