ZAGREB, July 30 (Hina) - Just prior to taking a vote of confidence to
the new government on Tuesday, Croatian Social Liberal Party (HSLS)
MP Zeljko Glavan said that a man involved in the Rijecka Banka
affair was being proposed as a minister in the new government. #L#
During individual opinions in the Sabor on the government's
programme and new members, Glavan did not say to whom he was
referring, but he pointed out media headlines about the
controversial minister.
Glavan reminded that Premier designate Racan had stated that if he
knew that any member of his government was involved in the Rijecka
Banka affair, that member would have to suffer the consequences.
Individual comments by MPs relating to the government's programme
and proposed new members was marked with objections on the account
of the government by opposition MPs too.
Vladimir Seks of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) claimed that
the new Government had an "illustrious and perfect programme", but
it was difficult to give it a vote of confidence when the same
government, he said, did not achieve anything noted in the
programme it had announced following the parliamentary election in
2000.
MP Marin Jurjevic - Social Democratic Party (SDP)- reacted to Seks'
claims and pointed out that HDZ MPs manipulated with the public with
political subversions.
He stressed that in 1999, the last year of the HDZ in government, the
budget deficit amounted to 7.4 percent, while, the coalition
government decreased this deficit to 4.25 percent.
Jurjevic pointed out the growth of the GDP during the coalition
government by 4.3 percent in 2001.
