ZAGREB, July 25 (Hina) - Croatian Interior Minister Sime Lucin has
prohibited a public gathering announced for Friday, namely road
blocks on the main highway intersection in Gracac, (the road to the
coast) - announced by the Association of Croatian Homeland War
Veterans suffering from post traumatic stress disorder. #L#
In its request for a public gathering, the association announced it
would block the intersection of the DC 1 & DC 27 highways in Gracac
and the Minister issued a ruling to prohibit such a gathering
pursuant to the Law on Public Gatherings, the Ministry said in a
statement on Thursday.
The ban was brought seeing that blocking the most significant roads
in the country in the peak of the tourist season would seriously
threaten free movement of Croatian citizens and guests vacationing
in Croatia, the statement said.
The law prohibits peaceful gatherings and public protests on
highways, if these threaten the security of road traffic.
The Interior Ministry stressed that peaceful protests had never
been prevented if they were in keeping with the Law on Public
Gatherings.
The Association of Croatian War Veterans treated for post traumatic
stress disorder decided to publicly gather because their demands
had not been met.
The association intends to block the intersection of the two major
highways between 4 - 6 p.m. on Friday near Gracac.
