Good relations with Slovenia are of vital interest for Istria
County, Jakovcic told reporters in Pula on Monday.
He said the government had to protect the interests of domestic
fishermen in the northern Adriatic until the sea border with
Slovenia was determined. He added, however, that fishermen must not
worsen the good neighbourly relations with Slovenia.
Disgruntled with the lack of a solution to the sea border issue,
Istrian fishermen wanted to hold a peaceful rally in Piran Bay last
week, on Croatian Statehood Day. The protest was banned by Interior
Minister Sime Lucin, among other things, due to the possibility of
serious public peace and order disturbance.
On behalf of the Istria County authorities, prefect Jakovcic
supported the government in completing its term in office.
