According to the letter, published on Tuesday, Bush notifies
Congress of the United Nations Security Council's resolution which
exempts American soldiers as well as soldiers from other countries
that have not signed the Rome documents, from the possibility of
being prosecuted by the recently established permanent
International Criminal Court (ICC).
The US President reminds that at the end of June Washington vetoed
the adoption of a resolution on the continuation of the mandate of
the UN mission in Bosnia as the immunity of US soldiers from the
jurisdiction of the ICC had not been ensured.
The American head of state added that the Security Council ordered
the (NATO-led) Stabilisation Force (SFOR) to continue its
activities in Bosnia by 12 July 2003.
There are about 2,400 American soldiers in the SFOR. In Bosnia,
troops from 18 NATO member-states and from another 17 countries are
deployed within the SFOR (Stabilisation Force).
