MOSTAR, July 16 (Hina) - The international community's High
Representative to Bosnia-Herzegovina, Paddy Ashdown, on Tuesday
suspended three judges, the Office of the High Representative (OHR)
reported. #L#
The suspended judges are Ivan Brekalo, the president of the
municipal court in Siroki Brijeg, Marinko Katic, the president of
the municipal court in Capljina, and Svetislav Stanojevic, a judge
of the Supreme Court in the Bosnian Serb entity.
These have been the first suspensions of judges since the British
diplomat Ashdown took over the OHR two and a half months ago.
International representatives and diplomats have openly advocated
radical reform in the Bosnian judicial system which they consider
as corrupt.
According to the explanation of his decision, Ashdown suspended the
three judges after they had violated the rule of law and failed to
respect judicial proceedings.
