SISAK, July 11 (Hina) - The area cleared of mines between January and July this year is two and a half times larger than the area cleared of mines in the same period last year, the Croatian Mine Action Centre in Sisak reported on Thursday.
SISAK, July 11 (Hina) - The area cleared of mines between January and July this year is two and a half times larger than the area cleared of mines in the same period last year, the Croatian Mine Action Centre in Sisak reported on Thursday. #L# A total of 12.6 million square kilometres were cleared of mines in 2001, while 11.1 million square kilometres have been cleared in the first half of this year alone. The largest cleared areas are in Zadar, Osijek-Baranja, and Vukovar-Srijem counties. Most anti-personnel and anti-tank mines were found in Osijek- Baranja and Vukovar-Srijem counties (1,306 anti-personnel and 1,172 anti-tank mines). During mine clearance in the first six months of this year, 3,990 explosive devices and 802 live bombs were discovered and destroyed.
