The head of the government's Office for Missing and Imprisoned
Persons, Ivan Grujic, said the teams had found the remains of three
persons at two different locations so far.
Parts of weapons and ammunition were found near a body discovered at
the first location, which indicates that the person was a Croatian
soldier, while the other grave contained the body of a woman with
parts of jewellery, Grujic said.
Prior to the exhumation, an area of more than 21,000 square metres
had to be cleared of mines. The entire area is to be searched for
graves.
Expert teams have so far performed the largest number of
exhumations and identifications in Vukovar-Srijem County. Not
counting the location searched today, a total of 1,905 victims have
been exhumed, of whom 1,567 found in 48 mass and a number of
individual graves have been identified, which is more than 80
percent.
Grujic said the exhumations would resume in autumn, while the
summer will be used for collecting data and locating mass and
individual grave sites.
