The study on the perception of corruption in the country was
conducted by Transparency International, a non-government
organisation analysing crime, corruption, etc.
A member of the organisation's steering board, Emir Djikic, said
that "bribery is broadly institutionalised and over the past year
alone every fourth citizen was asked for a bribe by policemen and
doctors".
The study shows that BH citizens consider corruption the second
gravest problem in the country, after unemployment.
According to indicators from other countries in the region, Bosnia-
Herzegovina is in the company of Albania and Romania, where
corruption is widely spread. It is estimated that living conditions
in Bosnia-Herzegovina are 10-20 percent higher due to corruption.
