SARAJEVO, July 8 (Hina) - Representatives of the NATO-led peace keepers in Bosnia-Herzegovina on Monday joined police investigators in Mostar who were trying to establish the identity and intentions of a person, arrested in Mostar on Saturday on suspicion that he planned assassination of the NATO-led Stabilisation force (SFOR) commander, John Sylvester. #L# According to a statement released by the SFOR command in the Bosnian capital, the suspect is still kept in custody in the southern city of Mostar. The fact that the SFOR chief commander, American general Sylvester, was in Mostar on Saturday at the time of the apprehension (of the suspect) gives us a reason for concern, a spokesman for the SFOR, said in Sarajevo. The SFOR will attentively follow the police investigation, spokesman Scott Lundy added. According to a statement given by Gen. Sylvester, the police in Mostar is responsible for the course of the probe, and the SFOR remains interested in information police officers will possibly gather. The SFOR commander confirmed that their two investigators were working together with officials in Mostar. The SFOR did not give any concrete explanation about who was the suspect and the reasons for the investigation. Speculations, however, appeared in the media. According to Monday's issue of "Vecernji List" for Bosnia- Herzegovina, local police officers halted a car in a Mostar street, which was driven by some Adnan Kadric from Zenica. The daily claims that Kadric is connected with Islamic terrorist and criminal groups in Germany and the Netherlands. During the search of his car, the police found a silencer-equipped machine- gun. The police also subsequently established that Kadric had driven the stolen car. As Kadric was stopped only 300 metres of a location where Gen. Sylvester should pass some time later, the police officers suspected that he might be preparing the assassination of the SFOR commander. Kadric was interrogated by the cantonal court in Mostar, and the investigation is under way. (hina) ms
