"A good legal framework has been set up at the state level,"
Croatian President Stjepan Mesic said, opening a forum of the two
countries' businessmen in Zagreb.
So far, Bulgaria and Croatia have signed 19 agreements, and another
six are under way.
In the first four months of 2002, bilateral trade came to some 4.5
million dollars, of which Croatia's exports accounted for around
1.5 million.
The Bulgarian head of state, Georgi Prvanov, who is on a four-day
official visit to Croatia, said that such trade was "considerably
below the possibilities" of the two countries.
Prvanov said a pre-condition for the strengthening of the economic
cooperation was the establishment of necessary infrastructure,
including the restoration of traffic along the Danube River and the
introduction of direct flights between Croatia and Bulgaria.
