President Slobodan Milosevic at the Hague-based UN war crimes
tribunal resumed on Tuesday after a two-week break with the
testimony of Austrian diplomat Wolfgang Petritsch. #L#
The trial was adjourned on June 17. In the meantime, the trial
chamber, at the prosecution's urging, requested a detailed medical
check-up of the defendant which, according to Judge Richard May,
has yet to be done.
Milosevic, who did not show any signs of a cold, objected that the
prosecution was submitting witness testimonies too late. He said
Srdja Popovic would testify as a constitutional and criminal law
expert.
The former Yugoslav leader is charged with crimes against humanity
in Kosovo and Croatia, and genocide in Bosnia-Herzegovina. He is
currently being tried for the Kosovo crimes.
Wolfgang Petritsch was the European Union's special envoy for
Kosovo before the NATO air raids against Serbia in 1999. He and US
mediator Christopher Hill tried to help official Belgrade and the
Kosovo Albanian leadership reach a peaceful solution to the Kosovo
crisis.
Petritsch was later appointed High Representative in Bosnia.
