BELGRADE, June 19 (Hina) - A representative of the Croatian

Croatian Deputy Foreign Minister Vesna Cvjetkovic Kurelec
advocated a better coordination of existing regional initiatives
and applauded the initiative by Yugoslav Foreign Minister Goran

Kurelec said that for Croatia, which has the status of active
observer in the Process, regional cooperation was one of chief
priorities, but also warned about the danger of a large number of
regional initiatives colliding and decreasing efficiency.
It is high time for countries in the region to assume responsibility
for the creation and preservation of peace, stability and
prosperity of the region, while appreciating the support of the
international community, since the region will thus draw closer to
European associations. It is also "important and necessary that
EU's expansion be based on individual fulfilment of criteria for
entry into the Union," she said.
"The EU's dedication to constant expansion is the best stimulus,
inspiration and motive for carrying out reforms which are painful,
for forgetting the past and focusing on the future for all countries
in Southeast Europe," Kurelec said at the one-day conference in
Belgrade.
