Cvjetkovic Kurelec, who participated in a conference of the foreign
ministers of the Southeast European Cooperation Process (SEECP) in
Belgrade, said regional cooperation was one of Croatian foreign
political priorities and that in accordance with this, Croatia was
participating in the work of all regional initiatives in the wider
region.
Croatia has observer status in the SEECP. The fundamental goal of
the SEECP is the transformation of the region in a region of peace
and stability with the aim to accelerate the approaching of its
member-countries to the EU and Euro-Atlantic structures.
Addressing the conference, Cvjetkovic Kurelec pointed to the close
connection between the further development of Southeast Europe and
the expansion of the EU.
She said it was time that Southeast European countries take more
initiative and responsibility for the building and strengthening
of peace, security and progress. She said that financial assistance
of the international community would continued to be appreciated.
Later this afternoon, the SEECP minister (Albania, Bosnia-
Herzegovina, Greece, Macedonia, Romania, Turkey and the Federal
Republic of Yugoslavia) should adopt a joint declaration which,
among else, adopts a plan for further organisational and programme
strengthening of the SEECP activities, the ministry said in the
statement.
