SARAJEVO, June 18 (Hina) - The Bosnian Election Commission said on
Tuesday the deadline for the registration of voters for the autumn
ballot would not be extended. Voters may register by June 20. #L#
The deadline will not be extended despite many requests to the
contrary, the Election Commission said in a statement.
Extending the registration deadline would affect all other
deadlines, first of all those for the submission of candidates'
lists and ballot printing, read the statement. Any change would
bring into question the successful organisation of the Oct. 5
ballot, it added.
Under Bosnia's election law, all persons who did not register for
voting since 1996 or changed the place of residence must do so now to
be eligible to vote.
Those who fail to register by June 20 will not be able to vote in
October but will have the right to do so at the next elections.
