Mesic and Ashdown spoke about the situation in the region,
especially about the necessity of a joint fight against organised
crime and terrorism.
"We agreed that the key issue is to establish a rule of law, that is,
to secure the functioning of the rule of law in the entire region,"
Mesic told reporters after the meeting.
Ashdown stressed that he and Mesic agreed completely that the
struggle against terrorism was a regional problem in which all
states should participate if they want to solve the issue
effectively.
Efforts are being undertaken in Bosnia to establish a legal
framework to secure a rule of law, which is also a precondition for
the fight against organised crime and terrorism, Ashdown said.
Mesic and Ashdown commented on Ploce Harbour and the establishment
of dual citizenship. Ashdown said that this was an issue for the
governments of the two countries.
During his visit to Bosnia, Mesic headed a Croatian sate delegation
which took part in the session of the Croatian-Bosnian Interstate
Cooperation Council. The representatives signed agreements on the
fight against organised crime, joint locations for border
crossings and legal assistance in civil and legal issues.
Reports from the council meeting, as run by Sarajevo media, mostly
stress that "unfortunately, the status of Ploce Harbour, as the
dual citizenship issue, remain unsolved".
