SPLIT, June 11 (Hina) - The trial against former military police
members accused of crimes against civilians at Lora Harbour
military prison continued on Tuesday with the testimony of Rade
Krilic.
Krilic spoke about abuse in Lora and Lecevica, although he said he
himself had not been abused. #L#
Krilic was taken to Lora on June 13, 1992. He said he had not been
abused, but he did say that when he had been questioned, electricity
had been hooked to his ears.
Before arriving to Lora he was taken to Lecevica where he sustained
grave bodily injuries because of which he lost a kidney, he said.
Asked by the defence council who arrested and beat him, Krilic could
not respond. He could not say with certainty whether uniformed or
people in civilian clothes arrested him. The witness did not know if
a trial had been conducted against him, nor whether an indictment or
charge had been filed. Krilic did say that after a month, a decision
had been issued by which he was released and cleared of charges.
Ankica Luetic, the defence attorney for Emilio Bungur, insisted
that the record show that a trial had taken place against Krilic and
30 other persons for rebellion against Croatia, which was later on
expanded to terrorism, the endangering of Croatia's constitutional
order and armed rebellion, and that the trial was ceased in November
1992 after the Amnesty Act was applied.
The trial against eight former members of the 72nd battalion of the
military police, of whom one is at large, began on Monday. The
indictment, issued this March, accuses them of crimes against
humanity and international law of war, that is, the abuse of
prisoners of war and civilians, as well as the murder of Nenad
Knezevic and Gojko Bulovic.
The seven indictees present at the trial pleaded not guilty on all
counts of the indictment on Monday.
