According to the gathered data, 53 Croatian patriots were killed
and 180 abused at the camp, Lipik mayor Stjepan Horvat and Damir
Spancic of Pakrac said at a press conference.
"People in Lipik and Pakrac are not against the process in the
Pakracka Poljana case, but the fact is that one crime is being
investigated and prosecuted while the other is being pushed into
oblivion, which arouses insecurity and dissatisfaction among the
citizens of Lipik and Pakrac," Horvat said.
Spancic is afraid that such treatment of war crimes could disturb
coexistence in the two towns, which so far have been commended by
the international community.
Spancic said a local organisation of war veterans produced
documentation and pressed charges against Veljko Dzakula and
another 22 persons with the Pozega County Prosecutor's Office on
suspicion that they committed war crimes. So far, nothing has been
done with regard to the case, he said.
In the Pakracka Poljana case, a group of Croats are standing trial
for war crimes allegedly committed against ethnic Serbs.
