The advisor on culture and cooperation at the French Embassy in
Zagreb, Olivier Brochet, said at a news conference at the Institute
on Monday the events would include numerous photo exhibitions,
including one by Frederic de la Mure, to be staged in Zagreb's
central square on June 10.
De la Mure has been the official photographer of the French Foreign
Ministry since 1982. With his camera he has witnessed not only those
events which are in the centre of international meetings, but those
that happened on their periphery.
The photo exhibitions will also include two retrospectives, one by
Henri Cartier-Bresson, a French photographer of international
renown, and one by Croatian photographer Toso Dabac, to be opened on
June 5.
Brochet also announced another significant event - the Festival of
Music, to be held in Zagreb for the third time. This event, which is
held every year on June 21 in more than one hundred countries, is
dedicated to all types of music - from classical music to rock,
traditional melodies and techno. This year's event will include a
street opera in motion - Les Groomes.
Institute director Robert Horn spoke in detail about cultural
events which the French Institute will stage in the next several
months to mark its 80th birthday.
A representative of the Zagreb City Office for Culture, Andrea
Zlatar, spoke about the successful cooperation with the French
Institute.
The events to mark the Institute's anniversary will also include
several lectures on French literature.
One of them was delivered this evening by Croatian Deputy Culture
Minister Biserka Cvjeticanin, who spoke about the literary work of
the Senegalese statesman and poet Leopold Sedar Senghor.
