Federation Interior Minister Ramo Maslesa confirmed that the
offices of "Al Haramain" organisation had been raided, but he
refused to say if anybody was arrested or what the investigators had
found.
"The operation is part of a campaign against terrorism and the
inflow of funds into organisations sponsoring terrorism," Maslesa
said.
The operation was carried out at the request of the Federation's
Supreme Court, he added.
Al Haramain, which is headquartered in Saudi Arabia, is registered
in Bosnia-Herzegovina as an organisation caring for refugees and
the families of killed Bosnian army members.
It was believed the organisation served for the secret financing of
Islamic terrorist groups, including Al Q'aida.
The investigation into Al Haramain began after US and Bosnian
authorities discovered the organisation performed suspicious
transactions with the mediation of "Benevolence International
Foundation", which is based in the United States. This organisation
operated in Bosnia through the humanitarian association "Bosanska
idealna futura", whose director was a former agent of the Bosniak
secret service AID.
Following Al Q'aida's attacks on the United States, the Bosnian
police have intensified control over most humanitarian
organisations which were operating in the country without having
undergone detailed check-ups.
