ZAGREB, May 27 (Hina) - Croatian President and Armed Forces Supreme
Commander Stjepan Mesic on Monday released a message
congratulating the Armed Forces (HV) on their day, May 28. #L#
In the message, President Mesic said the final stage of HV's
reorganisation had begun. He announced special programmes for war
veterans who will not be able to continue their professional career
in the HV. He was confident the government would find adequate
solutions which were acceptable to the majority.
"The contribution of Croatian Army members in the creation and
strengthening of the state is completely indisputable. In the past
11 years they defended and preserved the Republic of Croatia and
built a respectable military power. It is the estimate of Croatian
authorities, and I believe the majority of Croatia's citizens, that
membership in Euro-Atlantic security structures is a framework in
which we shall most effectively protect and realise our national
and state goals. We must, therefore, build modern, equipped and
trained armed forces which will effectively carry out their
constitutional duty to preserve state sovereignty and territorial
integrity. I expect you all to work and contribute in this
direction," read the message.
Mesic congratulated also all former HV members and paid special
tribute to killed and missing soldiers.
