ZAGREB, May 24 (Hina) - The World Bank's office in Croatia on Friday dismissed yesterday's statement by the president of the Independent Trade Unions of Croatia, Davor Juric, that amendments to the Labour Act were not a priority for
the World Bank. Juric said this issue was not a priority for the World Bank because the adoption of a labour law of poor quality in Croatia was not in its interest.
ZAGREB, May 24 (Hina) - The World Bank's office in Croatia on Friday
dismissed yesterday's statement by the president of the
Independent Trade Unions of Croatia, Davor Juric, that amendments
to the Labour Act were not a priority for the World Bank. Juric said
this issue was not a priority for the World Bank because the
adoption of a labour law of poor quality in Croatia was not in its

In order to avoid misunderstanding the World Bank wishes to clarify
that it entirely supports the Croatian government programme on a
more flexible Labour Act, as a matter of priority, in order to help
the economy and creating new jobs, the World Bank said in a
statement.
Creating flexibility on the labour market is a condition for
fighting unemployment.
Changes to the Labour Act are is a priority for the prosperity of
Croatia, employers and employees, the bank said.
