ZUPANJA, May 19 (Hina) - The bodies of the four remaining Turkish
citizens of Kurd nationality who drowned in the Sava River last
week, surfaced on Sunday. #L#
They drowned when a boat carrying 16 people, including two women and
children, turned over in the Sava River not far from Zupanja. The
Kurds were trying to illegally cross the Bosnian border into
Croatia. Four of them managed to swim over to the shore, but the rest
drowned.
Police found one body today on the Croatian bank of the river, while
the bodies of the other three were found on the Bosnian side.
A Vukovar-Srijem County police spokesman said that the bodies of
all the 12 people who drowned were found not far from the spot where
the boat turned over.
Police have stopped their search today, but since there is the
supposition that more than 16 people were on that boat, they will
continue controlling the river, the spokesman said.
He said that the bodies found on the Croatian side, amounting to
eight, were transported to Vinkovci Hospital where they will
undergo autopsies, after which they will be transported to Turkey.
