The two officials discussed the upcoming opening of a Croatian
consulate in Hong Kong, which is expected to help promote bilateral
ties.
A former British colony, Hong Kong was returned to the People's
Republic of China on July 1, 1997. For the last five years, the
concept "One Country, Two Systems" has been successfully
implemented, with Hong Kong being part of China but enjoying
autonomy in all segments, except for defence and foreign policy.
Hong Kong has a high growth rate, a very developed economy and a
gross national income of USD24,000 per capita.
After a visit to the Hong Kong port on Sunday, the President Mesic
returns to Croatia.
