ZAGREB, May 17 (Hina) - Parliament's petitions and complaints
committee received 1,106 petitions last year and processed all of

assistance or advice with regard to violations of their rights,
committee chairman Anto Djapic said on Friday. #L#
Submitting a report on the committee's work in 2001, Djapic told
parliament citizens mostly complain about social and economic
issues, primarily in housing and utility related disputes with
bodies of local government and self-government, and about
city/town authorities. Complaints also refer to unresolved pension
issues, the unauthorised occupation of flats, and evictions.
Djapic urged the government to step up the reform of the judiciary,
primarily the work of courts, which he said would provide citizens
with better security before state bodies.
By adopting the report, parliament wrapped up this week's sitting
and resumes the session on May 22. The agenda includes the
appointment of the Hina steering council.
