NEW YORK, May 10 (Hina) - The issue of Prevlaka is the legacy of the

Simonovic was quoted by the UN Chronicle as saying. #L#
In an interview published in the latest issue of the publication of
the United Nations Department of Public Information, Simonovic
said he was absolutely sure that the changes in the relations
between Serbia and Montenegro would positively impact the process
of democratisation in these countries as well as the successful
solution of the issue of Prevlaka.
Simonovic said the issue of the Croatian issue of Prevlaka
(bordering with Montenegro) was primarily the legacy of the
Milosevic regime and his intention to change international
borders.
He added that the fear of Serbia and Montenegro for their security
owing to the strategic position of this southernmost Croatian tip
could be removed by the demilitarisation on the both sides of the
frontier.
The respect for international borders is a precondition for
democratic Serbia and Montenegro, Simonovic said.
Asked about Croatia's role within the system of the UN, he said
recent years had seen important changes: in the past Croatia had UN
blue helmets, but now it is a country which takes part in UN peace
missions, and in the past it received the aid but now it is on the
path to become a country - benefactor.
Simonovic, who is also the current president of the UN
Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), spoke about the tasks he
would like to do while at the helm of that UN body.
