Del Ponte was accompanied by Croatian vice premier Goran Granic,
Justice Minister Ingrid Anticevic Marinovic and the head of the
government's office for relations with the Hague-based tribunal,
Orsat Miljanic.
During the day, del Ponte will visit sites mentioned in ICTY
indictments and hold talks with possible witnesses who survived
deportations, torture and executions conducted by Serbs.
During her stay in Erdut, the UN war crimes tribunal prosecutor will
visit the former Zeljko Raznjatovic-Arkan training centre and the
former headquarters of the so-called Hadzic's government. She will
also see a film on the war in the region.
The programme of her stay in eastern Slavonia includes the visit to
mass graves in Dalj and Borovo Selo. In Vukovar, del Ponte will hold
talks with representatives of the local authorities and a
government delegation led by vice premier Granic. After the talks,
del Ponte will speak to the press.
Later today, del Ponte will visit the Vukovar hospital and the
Ovcara mass grave where 200 wounded civilians and medical staff
were executed on November 20, 1991. She will also visit Tovarnik and
Lovas. In 1998, 48 bodies were exhumed from the mass grave in
Tovarnik while the remains of 68 victims of Serb aggression were
exhumed from the Lovas mass grave. Del Ponte will end her visit to
eastern Slavonia in Ilok in late afternoon hours.
