European Integration Minister Neven Mimica said at a press
conference on Friday that this was the fourth time the ministry was
organising the European Week. "We have been trying to increase the
citizens' awareness of the EU, inform them of the results achieved
so far on our way to the EU, as well as of our future activities,"
Mimica said, explaining the purpose of the European Week.
The European Week starts on May 4 in Zagreb's Cvjetni square, with
concerts, quizzes and other events.
Over the next week, the European Integration Ministry will be open
from 10 am to 2 pm for citizens and students.
Events marking the European Week will also include a lecture by
Austria's chief negotiator with the EU, Martin Seidik (May 7), an
international competition and exhibition of posters on Europe's
future, called "Europe 2020", which is to gather designers from 25
countries (May 8), the presentation of awards for primary and
secondary school pupils designing the Ministry's web pages (May 9),
and the presentation of three new publications on European
integration processes.
The European Week will be marked throughout the country.
