Tomcic made the announcement just one day after union protests in
Croatia under the motto "Change yourselves and not the Labour Law",
which were organised by four union centres.
Tomcic referred to the May 2 protests and stressed that there was
some discord between the rhetoric by unionists when speaking to
workers compared to what they talked about at meetings of the
Economic-Social Council (GSV).
"According to the information I have, and I have just received the
latest, talks at GSV meetings are going quite well and a large
number of contentious issues have been resolved", Tomcic stressed,
adding that he could not comment on whether there could be a turn
about in events.
Tomcic spoke about Wednesday's union protests at a press conference
where he also announced that a conference of the presidents of
European parliaments, which Croatia is to host, is to be held May 9
to 12. The title of the meeting is "Democracy Confronting Terrorism
- National Strategies".
