BELGRADE, April 30 (Hina) - A military prosecutor in Belgrade on
Tuesday filed a request for an investigation into a former Serbian
vice-premier, Momcilo Perisic, for espionage. #L#
Perisic was released on March 14, shortly after he was arrested
together with an official of the US Embassy in Belgrade, whom he
allegedly handed over confidential documents and gave out state and
military secrets.
Although the military prosecution had earlier announced that it
would wait for a decision from the federal parliament (of which
Perisic is a member) before initiating proceedings, the
prosecutor's office said today that Perisic had publicly waived his
immunity. The prosecution thus decided to initiate the
investigative proceedings before an official decision on stripping
Perisic of his immunity.
An investigation request was also filed against a Yugoslav Army
Lieutenant, Miodrag Sekulic, and an employee with the federal
Interior Ministry, Vladan Vlajkovic, both suspected of giving out
military secrets.
