ZAGREB/THE HAGUE, April 22 (Hina) - Former Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic, on trial at the Hague war crimes tribunal, on Monday refused to accept prosecution documents which were not translated from English into Serbian, with the explanation that it prevented a good preparation of his defence.
#L# Milosevic told the trial chamber that witness statements and other documents in English posed a problem for his collaborators. Several times during the trial, Milosevic proved that he speaks English very well. The Hague tribunal's Rule Book says the accused is entitled to the use of his mother language and that the prosecution has to submit material in the language the defendant understands. The trial chamber will consider Milosevic's complaint. Last week the trial chamber granted Belgrade attorneys Zdenko Tomanovic and Dragoslav Ognjatovic the status of formal legal counsels to Milosevic. The former president, however, refuses to acknowledge the UN tribunal's legality or appoint defence attorneys. The Kosovo part of the Milosevic trial resumed with the testimony of Ali Hoti, an ethnic Albanian who spoke about the persecution of his family from the village of Velika Krusa. ` (hina) h
