The MDLF is involved in supporting and investing into developing
independent media throughout the world. The agreement on
partnership relations, which is the result of several years of co-
operation between the MDLF and "Feral", will guarantee
independence and a critical editorial policy of this political
newspaper, as well as its financial stability and significant
progress in the field of marketing, the weekly says.
Founded in 1995, with the purpose of working with new independent
states of the former Soviet Union and Central and East Europe, the
MDLF expanded its activities to Africa, Asia and Latin America.
In the past six years the MDLF has invested US$18.3 million - via
loans, purchase of shares and other forms of financing - into 30
different media companies in 12 countries, thus providing them with
the necessary capital, the daily said.
Those media include dailies such as "Novi list" from Croatia,
"Vijesti" from Montenegro, and the "Beta" news agency from Serbia.
"Support and investments by the MDLF - in conditions of a merciless
competition on a market which is impregnated by monopolies and
political pressure - is a way for Feral to remain permanently owned
by those who write and read it," the "Feral" staff noted.
