Commenting on the CARDS programme, which the EU launched to assist
reconstruction, development and stabilisation in Albania, Bosnia-
Herzegovina, Yugoslavia, Croatia and Macedonia, Mimica said the EU
should increase its assistance considerably because the
implementation of the Stabilisation and Association Agreement
(SAA) also envisaged the return of refugees, who he said should be
provided with employment.
De Boeck welcomed the content of the European Commission's first
annual report on Croatia, adding that the country deserved the
status of leader among countries in the region that were included in
the Stabilisation and Association Process.
He also commended the Croatian government and the European
Integration Ministry, saying that it was evident that they invested
significant efforts in a relatively short time to co-ordinate the
bodies of state administration in the process of rapprochement with
the EU.
