The talks focused on the drawing up of a constitutional law on the
rights of national minorities, problems in the implementation of
the existing laws on the use of minority languages and education in
minority languages, and a minority television programme, reads a
statement released by the government's public relations office.
Both sides agreed that it was necessary to re-consider the models of
financing the minorities, the statement said.
The government officials and parliamentary deputies agreed to hold
another meeting in a month's time to discuss the constitutional
bill on the rights of national minorities. Prime Minister Racan
said that the government intended to submit to parliament a draft of
this document by the summer.
Attending the meeting were Serb minority representative Milan
Djukic, Italian monitory representative Furio Radin, Borislav
Graljuk, representative of the Austrian, German, Jewish, Ruthanian
and Ukrainian minorities; Slovak and Czech minority representative
Zdenka Cuhnil, and Hungarian minority representative Tibor Santo,
the statement read.
