Jurka Miljanic took the stand to testify today as a victim of the
Serb massacre in Skabrnja. Miljanic said that she saw Banic with a
gun in her hands and that she fired at Miljanic's husband as he knelt
on the ground. After that her husband fell to the ground and
trembled a death-rattle, Miljanic stated. As well as losing her
husband she lost a son in that massacre.
Jurka is the mother of Skabrnja commander Marko Miljanic who had
already testified in the Banic trial.
The trial is to continue on Friday with new witnesses taking the
stand. Zorana Banic was sentenced in her absence in 1998 to 20 years
imprisonment for war crimes in Skabrnja. She was arrested in
October last year in Switzerland and then extradited to Croatia
where she called for a re-trial which was approved.
