Earlier today, parliament's Justice Committee rejected the report,
which the government had seen previously.
The opposition's Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) proposed the
establishment of a parliamentary commission of inquiry to probe
Ortynski's accusations.
MPs of the Croatian Party of Rights and the Christian Democrats,
also from the opposition, agreed the accusations should be
investigated. They said Ortynski should either prove them or be
held to account.
Parliament rejected a report on the work of the State Prosecutor's
Office with a majority vote. HDZ abstained.
Parliament adopted a Justice Committee conclusion binding the
State Prosecutor's Office to submit to parliament within three
months a set of measures aimed at stepping up the efficiency of the
Office in the prosecution of white-collar and organised crime, the
abuse of illegal substances, and war crimes.
Also adopted was a conclusion by the ruling coalition's Social
Democrats whereby the government should submit to parliament
within one month conclusions on the state of crime in the country,
especially organised crime and criminals who can endanger the rule-
of-law and parliament's work. Within the same deadline the
government should propose measures aimed at preventing organised
crime.
