and Detained Persons said on Friday. #L#
This statement was given by the head of the Office, Colonel Ivan
Grujic, at a meeting with members of the Association of the Families
of Missing and Abducted Persons from Vukovar. Also present at the
meeting in Vukovar were representatives of the Joint Council of
(Serb-dominated) Municipalities, the Independent Serb Democratic
Party (SDSS), and the International Commission for Missing Persons
from Sarajevo.
Speaking about the exhumation of people killed in war conflicts in
1991 and the military-police operations "Flash" and "Storm",
Grujic said that the Office was expected to identify around 300
victims in 2002.
He expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of an Office's
working group for the Croatian Danube region, saying that there
were "numerous disputable concept issues" in its work.
The most difficult problem is lack of information on the locations
where the victims were buried, he said, calling on all those with
information on the location of mass graves or individual graves to
contact the Office.
The president of the Association of Missing and Abducted Persons
from Vukovar, Ruzica Spasic, said that the association was trying
to trace 102 Serbs. According to information from the documentation
and information centre "Veritas" from Belgrade - the same
documentation is available at the Vukovar Association of the
Families of Missing and Abducted Persons - 2,996 Serbs went missing
during the war in Croatia.
Grujic denied these reports, saying that there were 1,001 missing
Serbs in Croatia.
