ZAGREB, April 5 (Hina) - Croatia's exports in January 2002 totalled USD313.8 million and imports totalled USD594.7 million, which makes a foreign trade deficit of USD280.9 million. The export-import ratio in said period was 52.8
percent.

In relation to last January, exports in January this year dropped by
2.3 percent, while imports increased by 10.8 percent. The foreign
trade deficit rose by more than 30 percent.
Croatia's most important partners were European Union countries,
where the country exported USD173.1 million worth of goods, while
imports from those countries amounted to USD309.1 million.
Croatia exported most to Italy, with exports totalling USD57.3
million, which is a drop of as much as 23 percent. Imports from Italy
amounted to USD83.2 million, an increase of 5.1 percent.
Italy is followed by Germany, where Croatia exported USD52.6
million worth of goods, a decrease of 14.8 percent, while imports
totalled USD95.08 million, a rise of 1.5 percent.
Exports to Austria increased by 69.6 percent to USD29.8 million.
Exports to the countries of the Central European Free Trade
Agreement (CEFTA) dropped by 14.3 percent to USD40.1 million, while
imports rose by 10.8 percent to 87.5 million dollars. Croatia
exported most to Slovenia, with slightly less than 30 million
dollars worth of exports (a drop of 11.8 percent), and imports
totalling 45.04 million dollars (a 6.5 percent rise).
A more significant rise in trade was also realised with Bosnia-
Herzegovina, where Croatia exported USD38.2 million worth of goods
(an 18.5 percent rise). Imports from Bosnia totalled USD7.6
million, a 13.1 percent increase. Exports to Yugoslavia increased
by 17.5 percent to 8.7 million, while imports totalled 2.6 million,
a 60.3 percent rise in relation to last January.
