"General Gotovina will not surrender to the Hague tribunal or any
other tribunal, and isn't thinking about doing so," Ivankovic
said.
He added, "the latest misinformation on (Interior) Minister (Sime)
Lucin's part is in direct connection with the obvious intent of the
Hague prosecution... to withdraw the indictment against Gen.
Gotovina, i.e. to revise it."
According to Ivankovic, the government, faced with the tribunal's
intention, is insisting on a revision of the indictment, but only
after Gotovina's surrender, in an attempt to divest itself of
responsibility for prosecuting the general on the basis of a
legally and politically unacceptable indictment.
Lucin told a national daily today that, according to his
information, persons close to Gotovina were considering the
possibility of the general's contacting the Hague tribunal and
possibly surrendering. Lucin also said that nobody from the
authorities was negotiating with Gotovina.
