ZAGREB, Feb 28 (Hina) - Maritime Affairs, Transport and
Communications Minister Alojz Tusek confirmed on Thursday that he
was the sixth minister who handed his resignation to Prime Minister
Racan yesterday night.
"The sixth minister mentioned by Premier Racan and who handed him
his resignation, is me," Tusek told reporters after a regular
government session.
He explained he was, in fact, not the sixth minister to tender his
resignation, but rather the first, since he had submitted his
resignation to Racan several months ago.
"I handed my resignation to the premier several months ago, but we
agreed that it should not go public considering the overall
situation with the political relations within the five-party
ruling coalition," Tusek said, adding that everything now depended
on an agreement by leaders of the five parties and a decision of the
prime minister.
He did not wish to explain his resignation in detail.
"I do not wish to use this opportunity to speak about the actions and
methods used by the new leadership of my former party (Croatian
Social Liberal Party, HSLS). There will be time for that," Tusek
said.
At the start of today's session, Prime Minister Racan informed
reporters that he had received six resignations. Alongside Tusek,
resignations were tendered by ministers from the ranks of the HSLS:
First Deputy Premier Goran Granic, Economy Minister Goranko
Fizulic, Defence Minister Jozo Rados, Health Minister Andro
Vlahusic and Science and Technology Minister Hrvoje Kraljevic.
Prime Minister Ivica Racan said today he would comment the
resignations after the ruling coalition and leaderships of
coalition parties discuss the issue.
