MOSTAR, Feb 20 (Hina) - The Croatian Democratic Union of Bosnia-
Herzegovina (HDZ BiH) on Wednesday again dismissed the possibility
that it may not participate in a general election this autumn,
confirming it would register for and participate in the vote.
According to newspaper headlines, the international community will
prevent the registration of the party for the vote if Ante Jelavic
remains at its helm.
Jelavic told Tuesday's issue of "Dnevni avaz" daily he would
withdraw from politics if it was true that he was the obstacle to the
party's registration. He announced that "the entire team", whom
High Representative for Bosnia-Herzegovina Wolfgang Petritsch
barred from politics, would withdraw too.
Petritsch barred Jelavic and his close associates from holding any
political posts and forbade them to engage in politics after the
Croat People's Congress (Jelavic presides over it) last March
declared temporary Croat self-government in the Croat-populated
areas of Bosnia-Herzegovina. Despite the ban, Jelavic was re-
elected Congress president in October last year without rivals.
