ZAGREB, Feb 20 (Hina) - The Catholic weekly Glas Koncila in the latest issue comments on three newspapers' articles on a sermon the head of the Croatian Catholic Church, Zagreb Archbishop Josip Bozanic, recently gave in memory of the beatific Alojzije Stepinac. In an editorial headlined "The ABC of democracy", the weekly rebukes the articles' authors for making "harsh judgements, labelling, and in our journalism the increasingly unavoidable fabrications". "Bozanic's Crusade", "Exorcism of the Ghost?", "Bozanic with the Falcons", "Bozanic's March on Racan" - are the headlines of the commentaries in three dailies about Bozanic's sermon about Stepinac, who the Pope beatified. "To those who did not have a chance to hear or read the Archbishop's sermon, these headlines suggest that Bozanic committed at least some sort of crime or something unheard of, when he only pointed to the existence of a certain phenomenon in the modern Croatian society", the weekly writes. "Is a warning about a certain negative phenomenon in society, in this case the spreading of the communist mentality, a declaration of war, of a crusade, against the authorities? Is a warning about a certain negative phenomenon in society the hoisting of war flags against the Prime Minister? What kind of logic is this? Are those not unfounded claims and insinuations against Archbishop Bozanic? Even though the Archbishop in his sermon... did not say as much, as he did not speak about the incumbent authorities but a certain societal phenomenon, the fact is that it does concern the government if negative phenomena develop in society, but this does not mean at all that the government stands behind these phenomena", the weekly writes. It rebukes the authors of the articles for "obviously making up and fabricating a conflict between Archbishop Bozanic and the incumbent Croatian authorities". "Accusations that the Church people were children of the communist mentality, because they warn about phenomena of the communist mentality in present-day Croatian society, is a typical exchange of theses and an indicator that authors of such accusations have still not mastered the ABC of real democracy, so they proclaim the unbiased advocates of real democracy anti-democrats," the weekly says in its February issue.
